Veterinary Services In Elberton, GA
Located near Lake Hartwell, Lake Russell, Calhoun Falls, and Royston, Elberton Animal Hospital is here to serve your pets with quality care when you need it most. While appointments are recommended, we accommodate walk-ins and emergencies during business hours.
Wellness & Preventative Care
We recommend once or twice yearly wellness exams for all pets. During a wellness exam, we will evaluate your pet for any signs of illness or discomfort and administer annual vaccinations.
As the saying goes, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, and regular physical exams are imperative to detecting disease processes early. Additionally, disease prevention is always less costly than treatment and can prolong the lives of your companion animals.
Puppy and Kitten Wellness
Young animals need to be examined and treated as early as 6 weeks old. We will evaluate your baby pet for congenital defects, assess their overall health, treat them for intestinal parasites (worms), and start their vaccine series.
Puppies and kittens will need to visit us a minimum of 3 times to complete their physical and vaccination series. Our staff knows there is no ‘one size fits all’ protocol for puppy wellness, so every pet will get a customized plan to make sure they receive all the necessary treatments and sterilization (spay or neuter).
Our vets may recommend any or all of these puppy and kitten wellness procedures:
- Distemper, parvovirus, hepatitis, parainfluenza, bordetella, and leptospirosis vaccination
- Feline viral rhinotracheitis, calicivirus, panleukopenia, and leukemia virus vaccination
- Fecal examination for roundworms, hookworms, and other intestinal parasites
- Flea and heartworm prevention
- Spaying and neutering
Eventually, there comes a time when every pet needs medical attention, and our knowledgeable vets and staff are here to care for sick animals as the need arises. We hope we do not have to see you or your pet for an emergency but if we do, we can handle it.
Sometimes pets have to spend the night in our hospital or need extensive diagnostic testing. When you see one of our vets, they may recommend one or several of the following medical services.
- Bloodwork to assess red and white blood cell counts and internal organ function
- Radiographs (X-rays) to visualize internal organs like the heart, stomach, and kidneys
- Parasite testing for intestinal worms and heartworms
- Viral testing for feline leukemia and AIDs
- Taking samples for microscopic examination
- Dental cleaning and surgery
- Surgical removal of skin tumors or repair of injuries
- Skin allergy testing and treatment
Surgery & Anesthesia
At EAH our primary goal is the wellness of your pet. While anesthesia and surgery do carry risks, our staff will do everything we can to make sure prevention measures are in place in case of adverse reactions.
We monitor all patients under anesthesia for heart rate, respiration, vascular perfusion, and pain response.
Our surgery abilities include but are not limited to:
- Spaying and neutering
- Removal of skin tumors and masses
- Teeth cleaning and pulling teeth if necessary
- Injury and laceration repair
- Bladder stone removal
- Foreign body extraction
Just as we visit our dentist regularly, your pet should also receive regular dental care. Dental disease is one of the most common causes of illness in animals.
Infection in the gums and jawbones can lead to pain, weight loss, and even heart disease. As you may know, it can quite difficult to brush a dog or cat’s teeth.
Even the best pet parents need help to maintain their pet’s healthy mouth. Our dentistry services are designed to be preventative, however, we are capable of handling tooth fractures, tooth root abscesses, and much more.
Senior Pet Care
Just like humans, pets have special needs as they age. Some things we may recommend for older pets include more frequent physical exams, annual bloodwork, modification of their diet and exercise routines, and medications for chronic conditions.
You can be sure that our vets will make recommendations to improve the quality of life of your long-time friends. And when it comes time to talk about end of life options, our team is able to take care of you and your pet with the utmost compassion.
We have separate dog and cat facilities to provide your pet with a comfortable stay while you are away. We will feed any specialized or prescriptive diets that may be required as well as medicate any animals as needed. We have a private room for cats and a grassy yard for exercising dogs.
You will have the added benefit of knowing that if your animal experiences any illness while you’re away, it will be promptly and competently addressed by one of our clinicians. For a tour of our boarding facilities, please feel free to drop by anytime. To set up dates for boarding feel free to call us.
When you bring your pet in for bathing at Elberton Animal Hospital, he or she will enjoy a soothing shampoo and conditioning treatment, nail trim, ear flush, and blow out. Call to inquire about additional grooming options.
