Permanent Identification for Your Pet’s Safety
At All Creatures Veterinary Services, we strongly recommend microchipping as a safe, effective, and permanent way to identify your pet. Microchipping increases the chances of a happy reunion if they ever become lost or separated from you.
What is a Pet Microchip?
- Tiny, electronic device the size of a grain of rice
- Implanted beneath your pet’s skin between the shoulder blades
- Contains a unique ID number that can be scanned by vets and shelters
How Does Microchipping Work?
When a lost pet is brought to an animal hospital or shelter, they scan for a microchip. If a microchip is detected, the number is used to retrieve the owner’s contact information from a national pet recovery database. The pet owner can then be contacted and reunited with their lost companion.
It’s important to remember that a microchip is not a GPS device and cannot track your pet’s location. It’s a permanent form of identification that greatly improves the chances of a lost pet being returned to their family. Microchips can be implanted during a wellness exam or as part of a routine surgery, such as a spay or neuter.
